Chinese snacksIf all that shopping has left you with an appetite then what better than to seek out one of the most famous Chinese dishes – Roast Duck! Chinese food is well known world wide and is appreciated by many people around the world but what better place to try the authentic meal?

The three most popular meals in Beijing are Roast Duck, Imperial Cuisine and Hotpot eaten by locals and tourists alike. In addition delicious Canton and Sichuan cuisine are now available in the capital to tantalise the hungry tourist.
It is possible to find foreign restaurants here too including French, Indian and Korean and vegetarians need not feel left out as there is plenty of vegetarian food on offer. Service fees are not usual in the restaurants except for a few high-class ones where 10 -15% may be added onto the bill.

Roast duck has a long history in China and although there is more than one way to prepare it aChinese Cuisine couple of methods are favoured each giving a delicious flavour. The older method used before the Qing dynasty is roasted in a conventional oven and the newer and more frequent method is to suspend the ducks on a skewer and roast them in an open oven. Whatever you choose the result is sure to be mouth watering.

Imperial Court Cuisine is another Beijing speciality. Based on foods that were served to the Emperor and officials at the court, the food is medicated with tonics such as ginseng, Bear’s paw, deer musk and Chinese wolf berry. Whilst in Beijing why not try this unique type of cooking. The most well known is Tan Family Food which can be eaten at the Beijing Hotel.
