The Beijing Olympic Games will use 37 venues, among which 31 are located in Beijing, and 6 others in six co-host cities--Qingdao, Hong Kong, Tianjin, Shanghai, Shenyang and Qinhuangdao.

Qingdao will host the sailing events, Hong Kong the equestrian events and other four cities football preliminary.

Of the 31 venues located in can be described as "one centre plus three areas". The centre is the Beijing, 11 will be built from scratch, 11 will be renovated from existing venues and the remaining 9 will be overlays. The distribution of the venues in Beijing Olympic Green and the three areas are the University Area, the Western Community and the Northern Scenic Area.

The construction work of Beijing Olympic venues started in December, 2003 and will be finished by the end of 2007.

18 venues will be used for the Beijing Paralympic Games, including 13 new venues, 3 temporary venues and 2 renovated venues. All venues will also be completed by the end of 2007.


                                                                           

                                                            Beijing - The Area of Olympic Green

National Stadium (NST) Location: Olympic Green The National Stadium, which is dubbed "bird's nest" because of the shape of the structure, is the main venue for Beijing Olympic Games. It will host the opening and closing ceremonies, track and field events and football events. The construction started at the end of 2003 and is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2007. Seats: 91,000; Functions during the Games: Athletics, Football; Opening and closing ceremonies Post-Games use: The Stadium is to stage sports events at national and international levels, as well as cultural and entertaining activities
National Indoor Stadium (NIS) Location: Olympic Green Functions during the Games: Artistic Gymnastics, Trampolines, and Handball; Post-Games use: The venue, one of the best sports facilities in Beijing, can be used for sports competition, cultural and entertaining purposes, and will serve as a multi-functional exercise centre for local residents.
National Aquatics Centre (NAC) Location: Olympic Green The National Aquatics Centre, resembling a blue cube of water and dubbed "water cube", lies to the west of the northern end of central axis of Beijing. Covering an area of 79,500 square meters, it holds 6000 permanent seats and 11,000 temporary seats. Functions during the Games: Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, and Synchronized Swimming
Fencing Hall (FCH) Location: Olympic Green Functions during the Games: Fencing preliminaries and finals, and Modern Pentathlon (fencing and shooting)
Olympic Green Archery Field Location: Olympic Green Functions during the Games: Archery
Olympic Green Hockey Field  Location: Olympic Green Functions during the Games: Hockey
Olympic Sports Centre Stadium (OSS) Location: Southern part of Olympic Sports Center Seats: 40,000 Functions during the Games: Football, Modern Pentathlon (running and equestrian)
Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium Location: Olympic Sports Center Functions during the Games: Handball
Olympic Forest Park Tennis Centre Location: Olympic Green Functions during the Games: Tennis
Ying Tung Natatorium (YTN) Location: Olympic Sports Center Functions during the Games: Water Polo, Modern Pentathlon (swimming)

Beijing Shooting Range Clay Target Field (BSF) Location: Xiangshan nan Rd. Functions during the Games: Shooting
Beijing Shooting Range Hall Location: Shijingshan District, Beijing Total land surface (sq. m.): 45,645 Functions during the Games: Qualifications and finals of 11 shootings events, consisting of all 10-meter, 25-meter, and 50-meter range shooting events. The entire shooting sports of the 2008 Paralympics will also be held in the venue.
Laoshan Velodrome (LSV) Location: Laoshan, Shijinshan District, Beijing Total land surface (sq. m.): 32,920 Seats: 6,000 Functions during the Games: Cycling (track)
Laoshan Mountain Bike Course (LSC) Location: Laoshan, Shijingshan District, Beijing Functions during the Games: Cycling (Mountain Bike)
Urban Cycling Road Course (CRC) Location: TBD Functions during the Games: Cycling (road race)
Laoshan Bicycle Motor Course (BMX) Venue Location: Laoshan, Shijingshan District, Beijing Functions during the Games: Cycling (BMX)
Wukesong Indoor Stadium Location: Wukesong Culture and Sports Center Total land surface (10,000 sq. m.): 6.3 Functions during the Games: Basketball Post-Games use: The stadium, which includes Wukesong Indoor Stadium, Wukesong Baseball Fields, and sports and commercial facilities, will be able to meet the needs of residents in western Beijing.
